Shopping For Cheap Auto Insurance

When it comes to getting cheap auto insurance there are certain things you need to know. First of all, do not make the mistake of lying about anything when you go to talk with an insurance provider and/or when you fill out the initial application. Perhaps you may get away with it at the time and get the lower rates that you seek but what if you have an accident in the future? Then what?

The truth will come out eventually so don’t take this risk as it is not worth it. Once it comes out this could land you in hot water. Don’t lie about your occupation, address, the years you have been driving, whether or not you drive your car to work or not, etc. Not only will you end up blacklisted by the company that believed in you but you will have to pay for your accident, the claim that results from it and you might even be looking at a criminal charge of fraud. It cannot be emphasized enough- just don’t do it!

Think carefully about the deductible you choose when shopping for cheap auto insurance. This plays a paramount role in how much insurance you will pay. If you choose a higher deductible then in the event of an accident your out-of-pocket expenses are greater as you incur more of a loss than the insurance company. The good news is that you will pay less money for your car insurance. On the other hand, a lower deductible is the exact opposite- you will pay less yourself in the event of an accident but will pay higher insurance rates as the company is now the one that is placed at a greater financial risk.

Give your deductible a great deal of thought. Figure out what you realistically can afford to pay and what is not possible and then choose wisely. Remember that a higher deductible means lower premiums. If you can afford it then it is in your best interests to do so.

There are some insurance companies that offer discounts to customers who choose to take out more than one policy with their company. For example, you might be offered a cheaper rate if you buy car insurance, life insurance and house insurance. Multiple policies can sometimes mean multiple discounts.

Unfortunately there is usually a catch inherent in there somewhere. In other words, if you decide down the line that you wish to move your car insurance to a new company because they offer much cheaper rates it is likely that the first company will turn around and take away the discounts that you were given on your house and life insurance and will put your premiums up on both policies. Make sure you find out these things before you choose to sign with such a company!
